Tunbridge Wells Heritage Open Days 2011 - Woodhurst, 18 Old Kent Road, Paddock Wood, TN12 6JD

Woodhurst

A lovely detached Edwardian property with original features, with many original features and largely unspoilt by modernisation. The house has been owned by one family since the 1920s.

The external doors have been restored to their pre 1920s colour discovered under later paintwork; inside some areas of the house have remain unpainted or fully decorated since the 1940s, showing evidence of the original colours. Traditional restoring of lathe and plaster work will be illustrated in the dining room.

Community and family information, pictures, vintage clothing and other artefacts will be on show. In previous years, the work of the Paddock Wood History Research Group – which meets at Woodhurst – has been on display on the house. This year it is at the Wesley Centre – see separate entry.

The garden is particularly wild and unspoilt by modern urban style or any form of chemical weed control. It supports some old original plants and a large bird population, considering the location.
