Tunbridge Wells Heritage Open Days 2010 - Woodhurst, 18 Old Kent Road, Paddock Wood, TN12 6JD

Woodhurst

A lovely detached 4/5 bedroom Victorian style Edwardian property, with original features and largely unspoiled by modernisation. Of architectural and historic interest, family owned since the 1920s. General family and local information will be available. Items and pictures will be on show. Paddock Wood History Research Group meet here every month and their work will be included. Two rooms to date remain unpainted/fully decorated since the 1940s. It is planned that restorative plasterwork by a master craftsman will be in progress and demonstrated in the dining room. Damage occurred from bombs during the 1939/1945 war, a subsequent attack of dry rot and the 1987 gale.

The garden is partly wild and unspoilt by modern urban style or any form of chemical weed control. It supports some old original plants and a large bird population (considering its town location). Some nest in the eaves of the house and in a protected tree. There may be an opportunity to visit an old closed church yard nearby (the church was destroyed by bombs during the war)

What visitors said last year:

This was an excellent Heritage Open House event. We really appreciated the owner’s talk and tour, and the amount of time that she spent with us. We really enjoyed our visit. RD
