Tunbridge Wells Heritage Open Days 2011 - St Thomas's Church, Pennington Road, Southborough, TN4 0SH

St Thomas's Church, Pennington Road, Southborough

Consecrated in 1860, the church was financed by Mrs Sarah Pugh. It now has an award winning modern extension by Hawes Richards. Once know as the “half crown” church, St Thomas’s originally served a small parish of the adjoining streets, a mixture of large mansions, small cottages and farms. Interesting memorials and stained glass recall Southborough inhabitants, including the Colebrooke family with their East India connections.

An archive display traces the history of the land now covered by the twenty first century parish, as well as over one hundred and fifty years of the church and its congregation.
