The most unusual feature of this small Norman Wealden church – reputed to have been built on the spot where Thomas A Becket preached - is the extensive thirteenth century wall paintings. In a tranquil rural setting, the Grade I listed church also has some fourteenth century architectural features. The tower was partly rebuilt after a fire in 1639. Inside, the crown-post roof is striking and there are various interesting fittings. The church is cared for by the Churches Conservation Trust.

For Heritage Open Days 2011 the annual art, craft and music show, by residents of the village of Capel is being held inside the church. Last year twenty seven artists exhibited in various media. Visitors can browse a wide range of picture and photographs to a musical accompaniment and purchase art work, providing much needed funds to care for this lovely church.
