Tunbridge Wells Heritage Open Days 2012 - St Barnabas Church, Stanley Road, TN1 2RH

St Barnabas Church - Interior (Post Card) - Collection: Katharina Mahler, Tunbridge Wells

Guided tours of this spectacular and ornate brick built Gothic church sometimes known as the cathedral of Tunbridge Wells. Stained glass by Heaton, Butler and Bayne and fittings by Ninian Comper. Dating from 1887-8, some features were designed by an architect who worked at Walsingham in Norfolk. The beautiful vaulted mortuary chapel - an essential facility for a parish of very small houses - is especially notable.

Extensive exhibition of the history of the church, parish, school and town over the years. The entire 1911 census of the parish will be available to view – come and find out who lived in your house.

Various displays by local organisations including, for the first time, a display by the Friends of Grosvenor and Hilbert Park.
