Tunbridge Wells Heritage Open Days 2012 - The Pound, Grove Hill Road, TN1 1SD

The Pound, Grove Hill Road, Tunbridge Wells / KM2005

A Grade II listed stable where cattle, sheep which strayed off the Tunbridge Wells Common, along with other stray animals, were impounded until their owners paid a suitable fine and retrieved them. Grazing on the Common ceased in the early part of the twentieth century, so the Pound is a relic of everyday life in the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries.

Inside, a display of Royal Tunbridge Wells Civic Society's 2012 awards, which recognise development and conservation work of any style which has enhanced the local environment.
