Tunbridge Wells Heritage Open Days 2009 - The Opera House, 88 Mount Pleasant Road, TN1 1RT

The Opera House, Mount Pleasant Road

Opera House The Grade II listed Opera House was built in 1902 as a theatre, but given the name of Opera House as it was felt to be more distinguished. It has had a chequered career as theatre, cinema, bingo hall and is now a Wetherspoon pub. It remains in layout and décor a 1900 theatre. Visitors will be given a guided behind the scenes tour by Richard Storkey, author of “Opera House Memories”. The tours – no advance booking needed - include the proscenium arch, boxes, dress-circle and circle, which are not normally open to the public.
