Tunbridge Wells Heritage Open Days 2010 - High Rocks, High Rocks Lane, TN3 9JJ

High Rocks, High Rocks Lane

A chance to explore the most famous of the many sandstone rock outcrops surrounding Tunbridge Wells, with ‘cliffs’ up to fifty feet high and eleven bridging walkways. High Rocks benefitted in popularity from a visit in 1670 by the then Duke of York and his family – fifteen years before he succeeded to the throne as James II. In Victorian times, this tranquil wooded location was perhaps the most popular attraction for visitors to Tunbridge Wells. Once a Stone Age camp, the site is now a Scheduled Ancient Monument.
