Tunbridge Wells Heritage Open Days 2010 - RSPB Broadwater Warren Reserve, Broadwater Forest Lane, TN3 9JP

Broadwater Warren

The RSPB’s newest reserve, on land formerly known as Broadwater Forest and The Warren, was once part of the Eridge Park estate. Some archaeological traces date back to the medieval period. Military uses were significant during the Napoleonic Wars and World War II.

"The Archaeology and Military History of Broadwater Warren” is the theme of a guided walk on Thursday 1000-1300, led by Dr Chris Butler, Associate Tutor at the University of Sussex. Dr Butler is the author of books on prehistory and on military landscapes. He compiled a report on the archaeology of Broadwater Warren when the site was first acquired by the RSPB.
